Hi everyone I've been thinking about getting some Forgeworld parts recently, but have been disheartened when seeing the sheer number of complaints online about warped poor quality resin pieces being received from forgeworld.

I also noticed a surprisingly numerous amount of people claiming that the infamous Chinese forgeworld recasters actually deliver a better quality product, with the same level of detail but less warping and air bubbles.

What are your thoughts on this fellow forum goers? Anyone who has a side by side comparison of a legitimate versus a fake model would. New Hampshire, US. One of the scythes was a little over-curved, but some hot water fixed that right up.

What a hole If memory serves recasts quality is higher, but FW offers excellent customer service, so whatever flaws you models have can be replaced. From there its your decision, personally I stick with FW for their least popular models, as they're not recasted by a lot of people. Mainly Forgeworld and resin copies of Games Workshop plastic kits. Also several Rackham miniatures. All I can say is that the metal quality is horrible. I got several figs from them, all ended up at GW legal that promptly provided me with a letter to get a refund via Paypal. Another Russian based store. Never used personaly, but got good indication that they are selling recasts.

Any information on them please contact me.

Same as above, mainly FW recast, same story after the purchase I was suspicius. Sent them to GW and all where confirmed as recast models. I have been told they are not Russian but French. Can anyone confirm. The strange thing is that they have a UK based office? With a phone number?

From the homepage:. All I know is that they sell recast miniatures, just ordered a week ago a few items, the package hopefully will give me their address or at least the country of origin.A list of possible eBay sellers that are selling inlegal copies. Many of them I got letters from GW legal stating that the items I bought where recast. In some cases I have high suspect. Most of the times I got a fast reply, and when applicable a letter to upload to Paypal to obtain a full refund for my item.

Bought a few items from him, all sort of suspicius. Selling lots and lots of very rare items and in big quantity.Everyone knows about them.

We are talking about recasts: illegal copies of miniatures. No well known miniature company is safe from this practice. Copies from recasters, most of the time from China, are at first glance an option to acquire otherwise expensive miniatures at affordable prices. However, by doing so we are ignoring the damage that this does to the industry behind this hobby of ours. Believe it or not, this industry grows out of passion and love, the same we pour on every project on our workbench.

Famous search engines of Chinese products show easily references of companies like Andrea MiniaturesNocturna ModelsYoung MiniaturesKnight Modelsand many others. Even so, I think this issue began with Chinese copies of Forgeworld references.

Without remorse, there was a supplier that recasted the catalog of Games Workshop and Forgeworld reselling it at a ridiculous price. Despite every measure taken, with the evolution of websites and social networks, recasting has become nearly unstoppable. Illegal sellers proliferate on second-hand portals, ebay, e-mail contacts and even mobile aplications for peer to peer trading.

The difficult thing is to develop a miniature from scratch, starting with an idea that begins with just a few pencil strokes on paper. All that artistic work, ranging from concept, development, sculpting, marketing or quality control, has a price. We basically pay to perpetuate the work of each and every one of the artists involved in the birth of this miniature.

There is no better way to understand the lousy quality of these recasts than by putting them in front of their originals. Although you will see the very evident differences, during this comparison you will find the original piece on the left pictures and the recast to the right. For a better comparison, I have cleaned all the copies of excess resin and plastic.

This had to be done because it was nearly impossible to identify many of the pieces that came attached to large blobs of resin. Also, the resin used for the recasts is a very smelly material, with a very weak and brittle body, and you have to be careful with it at all times. In addition, as you will see later, the casting is not good and irregular surfaces of material are very evident.

There are sticky areas and others that are shiny showing where the resin has not properly cured because of a bad preparation mixture. As expected, the pieces to assemble are the same as the original. They are very complicated to clean, and with a lot of burrs.

At a glance, recasts appear quite similar, but when looked at closely, important flaws become evident. The surfaces are very rough, have lots of pores and bubbles, there are important burr steps or details covered by extra resin. A lot of resin has to be removed, rectified and even replaced with putty. Even so, this work is not enough to come even close to the original.

Judge yourselves. In the case of this piece, originally from Forgeworld, I had a small problem with the recasters. Both have exactly the same parts.

Chris brown yeah dj mwanga

Just as with Lietpold, the amount of resin and burrs it has is endless, making it especially difficult to find out what belongs to the model and what is left over. In addition to this, the flat parts are not flat by any ANY means. As you see, this is nightmarish no matter how you look at it.

Also, these fake copies come without any instructions as opposed to, of course, the original Forgeworld copy. After evaluating each and every aspect that could lead us to look for a cheaper product, we see that getting the original product will undoubtedly make our experience with the miniature hobby much better. We see three key points to avoid these false copies:. If you happen to know of any second hand recast seller, or on-line store selling these fake products, we encourage you to contact the corresponding company affected so they can take proper measures against it.

Only we can act effectively against miniature recasting! Recasting is a side effect of greedy companies or individuals that take hobby members for granted.Nov Posted by MGMPainting.

There are a ton of recast miniatures in circulation, and it seems that most people cannot tell the difference. When purchasing new models on eBay, the models come from Russia or China. Although there certainly can be legitimate Forge World models currently located in these places that the current owner wants to liquidate, most of the time those will be used.

The way the models attach to the sprue could be a clue. As an example, Forge World Chaos Dwarfs come on large triangle sprues. Here is a recast that appears that the original Forge World model used to make the mould was cut from the large triangle on the bottom of the sprue. They put a gate on the middle of the original sprue, and then the recast model was cut there causing the white area in the middle.

Thin casts is another sign of a re-cast model. This can often be seen in flat areas, faces, arms, and legs. Here you can see through the wings of the model, and the cast is actually so thin that there are holes beyond what there should be. Although not pictured, the face of the rider on that model had extra thin features.

His nose was just a thin line of resin, and his cheeks were malformed. Here is another example of a thin cast. The shoulders and necks are so thin they have holes in them. This model is actually supposed to have symbols on the inside of the shoulders, but the cast is too thin to preserve them.

Miscasts beyond the norm are another indicator that the model is a forgery. On this model there is a weird texture on the bottom. You may find weird textures like this on the bottom, inside, etc.

This bit has areas where the resin filled what should have been open space. This type of miscast is common on recasts. Double mold lines are also a giveaway for counterfeit models.

One mould line would be part of the mould from the original, and the other mould line would be from the casting process. They can be next to each other or perpendicular from each other or at other angles, but any particular part of the model should have one mould line running around it, not two. Notice how there are ziploc bags inside the mostly unmarked manufacturer sealed bag and a stick on label with writing on it instead of the brand labeling.

Ultimately, the only way for sure to tell if a model is truly Forge World or a recast is for Forge World to test the model. These signs are clues that there may be a problem.

Please remember that it is illegal to even possess counterfeit recast models.

It is illegal to recast for financial gain, as well as for your own personal use. It is illegal to sell or trade them. This violates intellectual property and copyright law. They will probably request pictures and contact info for whoever sold or traded them to you. If you have unknowingly purchased counterfeit models on eBay or through PayPal, they may be able to help you with a case against the seller.

They may also ask you to send them the models to be tested. This message was edited 1 time. Forum Index. Dakka Discussions. Forum adverts like this one are shown to any user who is not logged in.

If you are already a member then feel free to login now. I bought a Hydra awhile ago from this guy and just got around to painting it, however when I stripped it I noticed the resin was white.

I did some research on the internets and I guess that means its not "real" forge world, its a recast by an individual. It was pretty good quality and cheaper that the FW one, but I dunno about actually paying money for something that is "fake".

Plus he stated that its Forge world. Anyways he's got a bunch of stuff up all "primed black and dry brushed grey. Knowledge is power, guard it wisely - Plato. Cozy cockpit of an Imperial Knight.
